IEM Switchboard Metering Sockets Now UL-Rated to 100kA Using Breakers

IEM, the largest independent full-line manufacturer of electrical and power quality equipment in the U.S., has completed testing and certification under UL 891 guidelines for low voltage switchgear metering sockets to a 100kA short circuit rating using breakers as protective devices instead of fuses. Three meter sockets in a 24” wide enclosure or six meter sockets in a 34” enclosure are available where the use of current limiting breakers will ensure that the peak let-through current does not exceed 30kA per UL guidelines.
“IEM has been building metering sockets into its switchgear for a number of decades using fuses for protection,” said Don Kozerski, Vice President of Marketing & Sales at IEM. “However, some of today’s applications require breakers instead of fuses for ease of coordination and reset in the event of a fault. IEM can now meet this requirement as an added feature of our UL 891 switchgear. We offer a variety of current-limiting breakers as part of our meter sockets so that flexibility with respect to customer preference is still maintained.”
